At Mindful Mage Counselling (MMC), therapy is a quest, not a script. You won’t be handed a formula or told to “just think positive.” Instead, we work together to spot the loops, the spikes, and the storylines that need rewriting — whether it’s anxiety, depression, burnout, or relationship struggles.
Our counselling in Calgary is especially affirming for neurodivergent, LGBTQ+, and creative clients — folks who often feel therapy wasn’t built with them in mind. Whether you’re overwhelmed by stress, navigating burnout, struggling with identity, or facing relationship tension, we focus on practical skills and deeper meaning. The goal is to create something that feels like your therapy, not a one-size-fits-all script.
Sessions are semi-structured but never rigid. Think of therapy as having a map — but not being locked on rails. Sometimes we’ll explore the deep roots of your story, other times we’ll focus on short-term strategies you can actually use tomorrow. The shape of therapy changes depending on what you bring into the room that day.
We bring structure and strategy, but the pace is always yours. Some weeks we’ll challenge thoughts, other weeks we’ll slow down to regulate emotions or untangle relationships. The process is always collaborative, respectful, and affirming of who you are, not just who you’ve been told to be.
π Not sure what you need yet? That’s okay. The starting point is wherever you are today.
Our counselling services focus on the challenges that hit hardest for clients who are neurodivergent, LGBTQ+, or story-driven. Anxiety counselling in Calgary often shows up as racing thoughts, avoidance cycles, or decision paralysis. Depression therapy often looks like low motivation and disconnection. Burnout therapy helps when you’re running on fumes. This includes autistic burnout, which hits differently than neurotypical exhaustion — draining energy, focus, and identity in ways others can’t always see.
We also work with self-esteem and identity challenges, especially around gender, sexuality, or neurodivergence. For couples, therapy becomes a place to rebuild connection, strengthen communication, and feel safer with one another. And for narrative-minded clients — gamers, anime fans, and creatives — we use story, metaphor, and even RPG-style learning to make therapy click.
π If you see yourself in these challenges, book a consult. We’ll explore whether this space feels like the right fit.
We don’t believe in therapy that tries to squeeze people into boxes. Instead, we use evidence-based tools, but adapt them to fit you. Each modality has strengths, and the art of therapy is in weaving them together so they actually feel usable.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): helps identify thought loops and challenge patterns that don’t serve you anymore. CBT teaches your brain not to spam the same broken skill over and over. Great for anxiety, depression, perfectionism, and imposter syndrome.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT): for people who feel “too much” or “too numb.” Helps regulate emotions, build boundaries, and manage distress. Many clients find DBT skills immediately usable, especially when things feel overwhelming.
Narrative Therapy: is at the core of what we do. The stories we’ve been told — and the ones we’ve absorbed — shape how we see ourselves. Together we re-author the stories you’ve been told about yourself, using values, identity, and creativity. We often pull from games, anime, or comics because those metaphors explain things clinical jargon never could.
Mindfulness-Based Strategies: focus on working with your nervous system instead of against it. Breathing, grounding, body awareness, and reflection can help calm fear or shutdown responses. These are small, accessible skills that create big changes when used consistently.
Therapeutically Applied Role-Playing Games (TA-RPGs): turn therapy into active practice instead of "only talk therapy." Using structured role-play and character development, you can explore emotions, practise decision-making, and experiment with identity in a safe way. TA-RPGs are currently paused due to office space limitations, but we plan to expand this offering in the future with group sessions.
Psychoeducation & Lifestyle Coaching: inspired by Dr. K, Dr. Michael Yapko, and Lynn Lyons, we unpack how sleep, habits, and digital life shape your mental health.
π Not sure which of these will work best for you? That’s the point of therapy; we will figure it out together through collaborating.

Therapy evolves, and so do we. Current goals include:
Therapy is more than a profession — it’s a sacred space of re-alignment. For neurodivergent, LGBTQ+, and creative folks, therapy often hasn’t felt designed for them. That’s why we built Mindful Mage Counselling in Calgary: to make therapy feel safe, creative, and human again.
We use humour, metaphor, structure, and curiosity as our tools. We meet you where you are — whether that’s exhausted from hustle culture, overwhelmed by anxiety, or simply curious about who you’re becoming.
“You don’t need to be ‘ready.’ You just need to start where you are.”
